Man stabs brother dead

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Irked that he was challenged to a fight, a man stabbed his younger brother dead inside their house in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City, last Sunday night.

Oscar Saberon Jr., 26, is now detained after killing his younger brother Kenneth, 21, who was allegedly drunk at the time.

PO3 Lou Pagara of the Homicide Section said Oscar was watching television when Kenneth came in and allegedly scolded their 16-year-old sister.

Kenneth went outside and later returned to confront Oscar for allegedly glaring at him and challenged him to a fistfight.

“Nganong sipat-sipat daw siya niya,” Pagara further narrated.

Oscar went to the kitchen and returned with a knife that he used to stab his brother many times. Pagara said nobody witnessed the incident as their other six siblings were outside the house and the mother, a widow, was in another barangay at that time.

Kenneth was rushed to the Perpetual Soccour Hospital but died.

Oscar peacefully surrendered to the police who responded to the crime.  He would later say he was surprised with what he had done, Pagara said.

“Nakalitan daw siya. Putongon man sad gyud daw na siya unya ang manghod kuliton sad,” Pagara said.

A charge for parricide is set to be filed against the suspect who is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office stockade.  —BRP (FREEMAN)
