Cebu to get 8 new public schools soon
CEBU, Philippines - At least eight more primary and secondary schools in the Province of Cebu will get funding from the national government under the General Appropriations Act.
The eight schools are among the 41 Bills that were approved by the Senate Committee on Education chaired by Senator Edgardo Angara.
Cebu first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas moved for the approval of the 41 measures during the joint committee hearing last November 27, 2012.
Of the 41 measures, Gullas authored six while fourth district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon authored two.
Gullas authored the House Bills that established the Lanas National High School; Calavera Primary School; Cabuan Primary School; Mayana National High School; and Mainit National High School all in the City of Naga and the Tungkil National High School in Minglanilla.
Salimbangon on the other hand authored measures separating at least two national high schools in the municipality of Daanbanta-yan from Calape National High School.
At present, secondary schools in Barangays Logon and Paypay are annexed to Calape National High School.
Salimbangon proposed that Logon and Paypay National High Schools shall be converted into independent national schools.
The measures are set for approval before the Senate plenary before it will be signed into law by the President.
Once approved into law, the Secretary of Education is mandated to immediately include in the Department’s program the operationalization of the said schools the funding of which shall be included in the Annual General Appropriations Act. (FREEMAN)
