PIB to help find two escapees fromTuburan jail

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A team composed of five persons from the Provincial Intelligence Branch will be sent to assist the Tuburan police in the hot pursuit operations against the two detainees who bolted the Tuburan stockade Saturday dawn.

Supt. Rodolfo Albotra, chief of the PIB, told The FREEMAN they have not yet received any directive from Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador but they are just preparing for further instruction.

“So far wala pa gaingon si PD (Comendador) pero kung ingon ani gani or whatever ang dagko nga incidents sa province SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) na man na namo, (So far, PD has not given orders yet but in cases like these, its already SOP.)” Albotra said in a phone interview.

The PIB will do a backtracking of the two drug suspects, Jenard Pacquiao Magpuyo, 25, of Barangay Daan Lungsod, and Danilo Sanchez Navarro, 51, of Barangay 5. Both have pending cases for violations of Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PO1 Jezrel Perigo, jailer-on-duty, was reportedly in the barracks, located about 20 meters away from the jail, to cook something to eat when the detainees took the chance and escaped.

Magpuyo and Navarro, along with 13 other detainees, allegedly destroyed the door of the detention cell and bent the iron bars upward before they wiggled out.

A brief chased occurred but during head count, police noticed that Magpuyo and Navarro were missing. The two were supposed to be transferred to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center but failed due to overcapacity.

Based on the evaluation of Insp. Welther Grapa, Tuburan police chief, both detainees are still in their area of jurisdiction because both do not have enough money for transportation.

Police have searched the mountain barangay of Calangahan, boundary of Catmon town, after the two were sighted by their informant but during follow-up, the detainees still weren’t found.

“Di pa gyud to kalayo. Naa pa to sila nagtago-tago kay wala to’y mga kwarta, (They couldn’t have gone far. There are just hiding because they don’t have money),” Grapa said in a phone interview.

Grapa said they will send their explanations regarding the incident today at the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Branch for the investigation.— /MIT (FREEMAN)
