When Life Punches you in the face

LIFE'S ESSENCE - Katherine R. Oyson - The Freeman

At any given moment, life can throw us some hard punches to cause imbalance in our equilibrium. It could be an illness, loss of job, separation from a loved one, betrayal of a spouse, financial difficulties, and other problems that hit us head-on.

Like the case of a young lady who found out after the mammogram that she had breast cancer. She was shocked and in a quandary on how to deal with her situation. She felt lost and didn’t know whether she would undergo chemotherapy or radiation, or consider wellness therapy. Her condition brought her to the Lord on bended knees and ask the Lord to enlighten her to make the right decision according to His will.

“It’s true that sometimes life will force you out of your comfort zone,” says the greatbigminds.com website. “Unexpected circumstances can hit you so hard it will leave you numb, breathless, confused, and even broken. But believe it or not sudden and unwelcome life events are not necessarily bad. In fact, they can actually be a blessing in disguise if you’re willing to find the silver lining.”

There are ways by which we can roll with the punches of life when it hits us with a curb ball. The greatbigmin.com gives the following tips:

• Don’t get stuck in negativity. It’s normal to blame someone when you face setbacks, roadblocks and defeats. You may feel angry, scared, or sad. Even if you didn’t do anything wrong. Don’t waste your time and energy dwelling on the situation.

• Give yourself time. It’s okay to take some time to process the situation. Maybe it’s something so big you can’t digest everything at once. But at the end of the day, you need to learn to accept it. The sooner you face the facts, the better. The what-ifs, if-onlys, and should-haves are not worth it.

• Don’t panic. Breathe. It’s not the end of the world. Setbacks happen to everyone. Once you make peace with reality, try to focus on your next move. Do whatever you need to stay calm and relaxed. Just remember that “this too shall pass.”

• Take back control of your life. Get up and do something. Feeling helpless or hopeless is one thing, but wasting too much time on something that will not bring you any value is another. Avoid falling into the trap at all costs or you will be stuck feeling lifeless.

• Look for inspiration. Let something inspire you so much that you feel alive again. A small source of inspiration can make a big difference in your life. Just take some time to find it. You can even do it from the comfort of your own home.

• Stay positive. Believe in your heart that you can and will get through this. Even if you run into obstacles in the beginning, always remind yourself that you’re on the road to better things. Have courage, confidence, and faith. Don’t let life’s circumstances stop you from reaching your true potential or goal. Never look back. Move forward and have faith in God.
