Pasigarbo sa Sugbo:The Real Winners

CEBU, Philippines — Carcar City won big in the most recent “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo” festival competition, but everyone who witnessed the event last Sunday probably knew who the real winners were. They were the great talents that made everything ‘visible’ – the impressive craftsmanship and creativity of Cebu’s designers and artisans.

Like movie production designers who set the details of a scene into play, the creations of Cebuano props- and costume-makers were truly a collective source of pride for Cebu. The display of creativity stretched beyond designs and into the materials used in the execution of those designs.

Mainly crafted either with foam board, sintra board, cuts of tulle or combinations of various materials, some of the festival’s head-turning other winners – the vibrant costumes worn by the festival’s dancers, the intricately made props of the dancers, and the floats that vividly added color to the event – really wowed the festival crowd, along of course with the works of the choreographers.
