CEBU, Philippines — Teasers on a “mysterious new Filipino heroine” got Cebuano comic book lovers talking over the weekend.

Codenamed “Wave” and initially unveiled by American film director and writer Greg Pak on Twitter last Saturday, the character is one of many that will be making their debut in Marvel Comics’ “War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas” series that’s set for release in May.

Designed by Filipino comics illustrator Leinil Francis Yu, the artist posted his design of the character on Instagram after Pak’s initial unveiling. Not much about the character has been jotted down – save that she has tech and water-based powers.

Various reports quote Yu in indicating that the character’s “real name” in the Marvel Universe is “tentatively ‘Pearl Pangan’” and that she hails from Cebu.

Alongside “Wave,” new superheroes from China codenamed “Sword Master” and “Aero” will make their debut in the forthcoming series.

In the series written by Pak with sequential art by Gang Hyuk-Lim, the characters will play pivotal roles in defending the Asian region from the villain “Malekith.”
