Phoneography Cebu: Highlighting mobile photography

Jesson J. Morata - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A group of mobile-phone photography enthusiasts in Cebu recently celebrated its second anniversary last August. Formed in 2014, PHONEography CEBU also launched the group's first-ever phone photography exhibit last August 21-28, at the Cyberzone of SM Seaside City Cebu.

The opening ceremonies on August 21 started with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, with guests that include no less than Department of Tourism Regional Director Rowena Montecillo, and SM Seaside City executives. A short program followed and winning phone photographers in the month-long 'Subang Sugbo' photo contest were awarded. The photo contest was one of the many events for the anniversary.

Perhaps the most popular activities in the weeklong celebration were the photography workshops conducted with top Cebu photographers and fashion bloggers. Albert Pedrosa, Alex Badayos, Victor Kintanar, Cebu fashion bloggers Doyskie and Marco, Mike Perez, Gerard Pareja and founders Crisanto Etorma and Noel Villaflor were some of the resource persons of the workshops conducted in the afternoon of August 23, 25 and 27 at the Cyberzone area.

A mobile-phone photo contest during the opening ceremonies also put the participants' eye for photography and artistic abilities in capturing photos using mobile phones. Cash prices and gift certificates were given for the best photos taken.

PHONEography CEBU is now composed of almost 5000 members. They come from different backgrounds including both amateur and professional photographers and multimedia experts. More info at www.facebook.com/groups/phoneographycebu and know more about the group. (FREEMAN)
