Fashion at the Art Gallery
CEBU, Philippines - High fashion was front and center at Cebu's 856G Gallery on Sunday, August 30. The occasion showcased the creations of celebrated Cebuana designer Valerie Alvez.
Top-billed by bridal and eveningwear ensembles that were cut from lace, satin and silk, floral prints, lace-appliqued chiffons and silks in light solid hues were strikingly noticeable in the presented pieces - rendered to form with fluid curves, flowing lines and edgy in-the-now style concepts.
Undoubtedly one of Cebu's highly sought-after couturiers, Alvez has earned her share of followers for her penchant in designing pieces that allows the woman to express her own sense of style. This very same tone was impossible to miss in the fashion presentation that went seamlessly up to its well-applauded close.
Just as the creations of the metro's trendsetters remind Cebuanos that wardrobes do need makeovers every now and then, the creations presented by Valerie Alvez served as a reminder that - amidst the popular slavishness towards brand dictates and the sea of sonorous cookie-cutter trends - style is not about buzzwords, but more about the individual.
The fashion event is a reminder, too, that an art gallery is not just for visual arts. (FREEMAN)
