Marsala: Pantone’s 2015 color of the year

CEBU, Philippines – Since 1990, the Pantone Color Institute has played a role in forecasting what color would be all the rage for the next twelve months – nominating a “Color of the Year” at the turn of each year.

This year, the institute names “Marsala” as Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year – the color that’s expected to lead the design directives of designers, artists and creative individuals, as well as captivate the fancies of consumers and product end-users.

In an online press release, Pantone describes the color as “a naturally robust and earthly wine red,” one that “enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability.”

“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness,” the press release states. “This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”

Announced in December last year, it’s interesting to see just how much the earthy hue will be used by Cebu’s local artists and designers – and just how much Cebuanos would come to embrace Marsala as the definitive hue of 2015.
