CEBU, Philippines - When Teo arrived home from school, his five lolas were napping in the sala, in various positions. They must be tired, he sighed.
It was a long drive from Manila to Umingan. But they often came to Umingan to visit their farm, and of course, Teo.
“Ahh, Teo, you’re here!” Lola Pacing yawned, seeing Teo.
“Teo apo!” four more voices hurried to Teo.
Tsup. Tsup. Tsup. Tsup. Tsup.
As always, they had pasalubong for Teo – five pastries, five books, and give shirts. And as always, after they had said grace at mealtime, they asked, “Teo, do you read your Bible every day?”
“Opo!”
Then for the first time they quizzed him, “Can you recite one verse from memory?”
Surprised but ready. Teo rose and recited Isaiah 46:4: “Even when you are old, I will be the same. Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you. I made you and will take care of you. I will carry you and save you.”
Silence.
“Awh!” exclaimed the five gray-haired ladies, amazed.
They all stood up. Teo thought they’d come an dhug him. But instead, they met his Ttay entering the door, and hugged him. “Ador, you are raising your son well!”
Prayer:
Thank You, Jesus for my grandparents. Help me to show my love to them. Amen.
Memory verse:
Even when you are old, I will be the same. Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you. I made you and will take care of you. I will carry you and save you. Isaiah 46:4
