Jewelle Yeung: “Red Thread” and “Animal Series”

CEBU, Philippines - There's a lot to like about Jewelle Yeung's insightfully balanced approach in the making of art, a creative method that brings dimension to the old axiom: "The act of observing something changes the nature of the thing observed."

Currently the exhibiting artist of the 856G Gallery along A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue, the artist's "Red Thread" and "Animal Seires" are the showcased highlights of her first solo art exhibit in Cebu - which was on display in the gallery until Monday, October 13.

Working with a firm understanding of the value and importance of symmetry, the large scale works presented in the show are molded from different artistic themes and styles - deeming their being as an interesting mix between the linear painting form, surrealism, expressionism and abstraction.

Exalting beauty in dramatic shades and tones and capturing moments of triumph without overly depending on literal shapes and forms, Yeung manages to evoke a sense of awe and wonder from viewers through her presented works - a feat which the artist does by creating art pieces that are edgy but glamorous; empowering, not condescending.

In balancing creative methods with content, the pieces presented in Yeung's first solo art exhibit in Cebu bore a multi-faceted façade - as they can either take the form of sadness or euphoria - all depending on how a viewer wishes them to be. (FREEMAN)
