Plantation Bay Resort & Spa
CEBU, Philippines - We always look forward to attending Plantation Bay's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremonies around the end of November. Past holiday seasons had us dancing to rock and roll music with guests and staff alike, so our memories are always fond and fun of these events.
As usual, Plantation did not disappoint this year, even adding something new. Instead of the usual ceremonies by the lobby, these were held at their Galapagos Island. And aside from merely lighting a gigantic Christmas tree, Christmas lights all over the resort were lit, complete with their trademark red, green, and yellow "parols" (lanterns). Hotel guests, travel and media partners alike feasted on scrumptious canapés; a crepe section; the most succulent, crispiest “black†lechon; and a dessert station offering fruit tarts, chocolates, and fresh fruits. Wines, spirits, and juices flowed non stop. Plantation's PR Associate, Hannah Patalinhug, was there to graciously welcome and chat with us.
To further entertain the guests, one could find Santa Claus and his elves in one area of the island giving out candies, chocolates, and cookies to the delighted children who eagerly lined up for their photo on Santa's lap. In another area of the lagoon, the children could find a trio of mermaids with their colored fins above the water. Yet in one area were surfers who could be seen by water candles reminiscent of those seen in the Disney movie, Tangled. My very own niece and nephew enjoyed themselves immensely, playing in the sand!
The evening's highlight was a fashion show of the hotel staff modeling for their 2014 calendar. Parading down the runway, they were a vision in white outfits, much to the appreciation of the guests.
We ended our evening at their Kilimanjaro Café, dining on old-time favorites such as salmon filet, bistek tagalog, roasted chicken, chicken and pork adobo, stir-fried oriental vegetables, and a Waldorf salad.
Till next year's Christmas lighting ceremonies…stay tuned! — (FREEMAN)
