Delphine de Lorme at The Henry

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - There’s a lot to like about Delphine de Lorme’s attention to detail, one which says something about the overall nature of artistic creation – it is serious business, not readily doable with half measures.

Recently celebrating a one night only exhibition in The Henry Hotel last May 2, more than 30 of de Lorme’s pop art-themed works were highlighted during the occasion, each outstanding in conveying the aesthetic value in art, capturing moments of triumph and exalting beauty in its most dramatic tone.

With works gilded with vivid colors and witty compositions, thematic contrast plays a vital role in de Lorme’s artistic sights, something which is not easily found in every artist.

Working with a given body of established icons – from classic movie posters, established personalities and well-loved pop culture characters – de Lorme takes the time in deconstructing the facets which have made mainstay icons what they are, keen on reinterpreting their being in a light that is fresh and profound in its overall scope.

Born in Paris in 1967, de Lorme attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, as well as studied dance and theater. Born to a family of artists, her grand uncle, Andre Groult, was an established art deco interior designer.

Deeply inspired by the works of Mimmo Rotella, de Lorme’s pop art inspirations are also steeped with influences from the works of Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, along with the abstract expressionist views of Jasper Johns and neo-expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

With works taking an edgy yet glamorous tone, it is easy to see how de Lorme’s artistic inclinations are keen on giving life a significant zing, one that isn’t condescending, but empowering.
