Marco Polo & Radisson Blu welcome the Year of the Water Snake

Gong Xi Fa Cai or Kong Hei Fat Choi…whichever…the Marco Polo Plaza – Cebu’s finest – ushered in the Year of the Water Snake with much festivity.

The evening’s celebration started with the annual Yee Sang Tossing ceremony participated by special guests from the media and Filipino-Chinese community… special guests like Chinese Consul General Zhing Weiguo, Consul Sammy Chioson, Melanie Ng, Ms. Grace Ho, GM Hans Hauri and media personalities. The guests gathered around the Yee Sang and using Marco Polo’s signature giant chopsticks, tossed the salad into the air. Yee Sang is also known as the Prosperity Toss and it is said the higher you toss it, the more luck you will have.

Aside from the Yee Sang ceremony, a lion and dragon dance also commenced at the hotel lobby to bring in more good fortune. There was also the traditional tossing of the coins and the unending fireworks display purportedly to ward off evil spirits.

The Year of the Water Snake is the beginning of the new nine year cycle. Water Snakes are influential and insightful. They are motivated and very determined about success. They are intuitive, introspective, refined and collected among the Animal Signs!

Meanwhile, on the eve of Chinese New Year celebrating the Year of the Water Snake, Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu had four lions at the Grand Lobby for the eye-dotting ceremony.

Guests of honor were Consul Huang Rongzhi and Consul Sun Shan from the Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Cebu, and Mr. & Mrs. Alan Dino owners of Dong Fang Travel which organized the chartered flight from Mainland China to Cebu. The group tour from Mainland China has increased the number of tourists in Cebu.

After the eye-dotting ceremony, there was the tossing of coins where guests struggled to catch the coins believed to bring good luck.

Unbelievably but true… during the Chinese New Year at Radisson, some 600 guests were at Feria and some at the ballroom, since the guests came in a family of ten or twelve and could no longer be accommodated at the Feria.
