The Ouya expected to roll out via Target and Amazon

June this year - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - When we last talked about the Ouya, an Android-driven game console, we essentially focused on how much of a hit its Kickstarter campaign had been last year, with the product known to have made new records in Kickstarter histories and polls.

Last week, the Ouya once again made waves, with Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman announcing that the device will be rolling out this June overseas, via retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, Target and GameStop.

In a Wall Street Journal report, Uhrman is noted to share that accessories and peripherals for the console will also be made available, with these items rated to price as low as $49.99 (roughly Php 2,000 at $1= Php 40).

The Ouya game console itself is tagged to price at $99, which would put it somewhere near Php 4,000 at $1 = Php 40 (minus shipping and other distribution-overhead costs).

It is interesting to note that the Ouya, unlike other current industry standard game consoles, is Android driven, which essentially makes it a unique addition to one’s home entertainment system.

Given the diverse range of game titles developed for the Android mobile operating system, its release is described as “interestingly timely”, as there is another game console assumed to be on its way too.

Will the PlayStation 4 make its debut this Feb 20?

Though there has been no official indication from Sony that it will be unveiling the new PlayStation 4, the brand is revealed to have released invitations to a press briefing, slated to happen in New York City on February 20.

Sent to various media outfits, the invitation is essentially about a “PlayStation Meeting 2013”, as reported by Wired Magazine.

With the said invitation not exactly clear about what would take place during the event, speculations are quick in assuming that the PlayStation 4 game console is to be highlighted that day.

Game industry analyst Michael Pachter, via Twitter, is noted to share that: “Sony is inviting investors and media to the Feb 20 event; that means console announcement.”

Again, Sony hasn’t explicitly said that it will be unveiling the new PlayStation next week, but as the console’s release had long been pegged to happen this year, it may just be officially unveiled by then. — Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi
