Hackulous shuts down

CEBU, Philippines - As an online entity, Hackulous has been described as “a community dedicated to pirating iOS applications and distributing them via Cydia” (the App Store equivalent of “jailbroken” iDevices), though an app known as Installous.

With such a description, the news of Hackulous recently shutting down and halting its operations doesn’t come as strange, given how sensitive the piracy of apps has become today.

As an online community, Hackulous essentially dealt with “cracked” paid iOS apps, readily distributing their availability to different iDevice users with “jailbroken” gadgets.

Through Hackulous’ once active “services”, iDevice users could  readily find full versions of different iDevice applications without having to necessarily pay for any of them at all.

With the Hackulous site donning a shut down message authored by its creators, the difficulties of maintaining a community like Hackulous is stated to be the main cause for the shut down.

As it is, the Hackulous shut down proves to be a huge win for Apple, as well as big win for third-party iOS app developers.
