Vance Larena has had an ever changing tapestry of colorful, complex characters he has portrayed in his career. His theatre background gave him a stage to awaken his inner hero, lover, friend, and villain, earning him one Aliw Award after another. It is only recently that he crossed to film and television, breaking out as an actor who is more than capable to captivate not only onstage, but on screen as well.
One might remember Vance’s debut film in Kip Oebanda’s “Bar Boys” as the notable Lord Master. He then starred in his first lead role in Jason Paul Laxamana’s critically-acclaimed musical “Bakwit Boys.” Since then, he has been gracing primetime television via “Ipaglaban Mo,” “Dangal,” and “Nang Ngumiti ang Langit.” He has also starred in the romantic series “Find Her” by Smart Communications.
2019 is Vance’s year to explore more characters and unleash his versatility as an actor. His star is growing and so is his filmography. Three feature films are lined up for the talented actor: He is in Brillante Mendoza’s “Resbak” and Mikhael Red’s upcoming thriller “Dead Kids” alongside trailblazers Sue Ramirez and Khalil Ramos. He is also in Andoy Ranay’s romantic drama “Open together” with Arci Munoz and JC Santos. A partnership between T-Rex Entertainment and Black Sheep Productions, the film is now an official entry to the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019 and will be shown in cinemas on September 13-19.

The Cinemalaya fever is on high pitch as the most prestigious independent film festival goes on full gear with its awards night happening on Sunday.
It is hard to catch up watching all the ten competition entries but so far we have watched “Ani,” “Belle Douleur,” “Edward,” “Children of River,” “Fuccbois,” “Iska” and “Pandanggo sa Hukay.”
From those that we have seen, we liked the performances of Ruby Ruiz in “Iska,” Iza Calzado in “Pandanggo sa Hukay,” Mylene Dizon and Kit Thompson in “Belle Douluer,” Louise Abuel in “Edward,” Noel Comia Jr. in “Children of the River,” Ricky Davao and the two leads Royce Cabrera and Kokoy de Santos.
We hope to catch the other entries before the awards night but we feel the personalities we mentioned will be top contenders for the awards.
