Reese Witherspoon forming media company
CEBU, Philippines - Reese Witherspoon is forming a media company aimed at women’s interests.
The “Sweet Home Alabama” star has teamed up with bosses at Otter Media, a joint venture founded by officials at The Chernin Group and AT&T, to form the company under the banner Hello Sunshine. All content will be created for and by women on multiple platforms, and will start rolling out next year.
Witherspoon will also continue to produce projects under her Pacific Standard production company.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Peter Chernin and AT&T on this exciting new company,” a statement from Witherspoon reads. “My lifelong passion has been to tell women’s stories with authenticity and humor. This partnership will allow me to reach a greater audience that is eager for more female driven content.”
“Hello Sunshine is deeply committed to creating content that will reach women where they spend time, whether it is at a movie theater, at home or on their mobile device. Women are looking for entertainment that speaks to them about what they value. Hello Sunshine will make content that entertains, educates and brings women together.”
The news comes just months after the actress parted ways with her production company co-founder Bruna Papandrea in September. The actress and Australian film producer Bruna launched Pacific Standard in 2012 and ran the company together, championing female-driven projects and making movie adaptations of bestselling books, including Gillian Flynn’s “Gone Girl.”
Projects currently in the Pacific Standard pipeline include HBO TV mini-series “Big Little Lies,” an adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s novel which stars Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley; an adaptation of the 2015 mystery novel “Luckiest Girl Alive”; and Wendy Walker’s 2016 thriller “All Is Not Forgotten.”
Earlier this year, Witherspoon and her partners also won the book rights to the 2015 war novel “Ashley’s War: The Untold Story Of A Team of Women Soldiers On The Special Ops Battlefield.” (FREEMAN)
