Fans abroad willing to send donations for AlDub libraries

The right time has come, or as Lola Nidora would put it “Dumating na ang tamang panahon.”

The stage is set for the biggest event for the AlDub tandem of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza as the hottest loveteam on Philippine noontime TV will finally meet again in grand style, but for a worthy cause.

Alden and Yaya Dub will meet on Saturday, October 24, at the 55,000-seater Philippine Arena in a big show dubbed as “Ang Tamang Panahon.” Even if tickets were being sold for the event, all tickets were snapped up, with the Ticketron website breaking down few hours due to heavy influx of inquiries online. The entire proceeds are being earmarked for the construction of AlDub libraries all over the country.

This is a very laudable project by EB and AlDub as the libraries that they are planning to put up will benefit many school children who don’t have the means to buy books or even access to libraries where they can do research. There are AlDub fans abroad who can’t attend the event but expressed willingness to take part by sending donations to enable EB and AlDub to provide more AlDub libraries in as many places possible.

There is also a suggestion from AlDub fans to have donation drop off points for books for those who won’t be able to watch at the Philippine Arena, but are also willing to give for a worthy cause. As Lola Nidora said, “Hindi lang pangkilig ang AlDub Nation. Marunong din sila magmalasakit and to share.”

The Eat Bulaga show will start at 11:30 a.m. but as early as 10 a.m., there will already be a presentation to entertain the huge crowd who will watch the show at the Philippine Arena before the main show of EB starts.

“Ang Tamang Panahon” will also serve as the Kalyeserye and AlDub’s way of thanking those who love and supported the segment and the tandem since day one. It is certainly one big event that we should not miss.

A documentary about the late Filipina theater, TV and film actress Amable “Ama” Quiambao titled “Ang Platinong Buhok” (The Platinum Hair) has been officially selected and is in competition with other films from around the world in the 2015 International Film Festival Manhattan New York City.

This 18-minute short documentary was written and directed by stage actor Perry Escano and is set for screening on Sunday, October 25, at the Producer’s Club in 358 W 44th St. (near 9th Avenue) New York City, New York. It precedes the screening of the feature documentary “A Candle Lights the Heart,” directed by Shinji Kondo from the United States.

The documentary chronicles and highlights Ms. Quiambao’s career as an actress and personal life as friend, teacher and mother, which are revealed by film and theater colleagues and her immediate family.

Escano says: “This documentary is a tribute to Tita Ama and to all the artists. I think people should know the life, dedication and sacrifices of the artists in the Philippines. Artists are the disciples of the arts and many have given pride and honor to our country. The people should know the importance of artists because they have sacrificed so much, all for the sake of art and their love of Philippine culture.”

Escano’s team interviewed a lot of artists to know about the highlights of Ms. Quiambao’s career as actress, as well as being a teacher, a wife and a mother.

The documentary director divulges, “My most unforgettable artistic collaboration with Tita Ama was when we did ‘La Casa de Bernarda Alba.’ I learned a lot from her, especially in the delivery of lines, being conscious of your attack and blockings, character analysis and other things. She used to attend and watch the plays I was part of, and she eventually became my mentor. I treated her like my mother and guiding light on stage. This is my humble tribute to her, for all her dedication and contribution in the field of theater, film and television.”

“I want to thank the family of Tita Ama for all their support in the making of this documentary. Thank you for giving me the go signal  and approval to go on with this and for the stories that you shared about her,” ends Escano.

Artists included in the documentary are Quiambao Manansala, Abby Ortega, Miriam Quiambao, film directors Joel Lamangan, and Soxie Topacio, Lou Veloso, Ermie Concepcion, Joel Saracho, J.K Anicoche and her son Ishmael Manansala Viray.

The Director of Photography and Co-Producer of “Ang Platinong Buhok” is Steven Flor. Co-presentors are John Anthony L. Wong of EDGE Manila Creatives Corporation, Assistant Director is Abel C. Napuran, Editor is Conrad Zaguirre, while the producers are Triple MP Productions and MPJ Entertainment Productions.

The International Film Festival Manhattan 2015 runs from October 22-25. The Opening Night and Awards Gala will happen at the Philippine Consulate 556 5th Ave New York City.
