Dwayne Johnson joins Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’

CEBU, Philippines – Dwayne Johnson is rocking his acting career. E! News has learned that the 43-year-old professional wrestler, who goes by his ring name The Rock, has joined Disney’s live-action “Jungle Cruise.” Writers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are also attached to the project, which is currently in development.

According to The Wrap, the film, which is based on the popular theme park ride, does not yet have a director. The site also reports that Johnson’s film is expected to be a period piece.

The Rock’s acting career has skyrocketed as of late. After starring in two of this year’s biggest blockbusters (“Furious 7” and “San Andreas”), he’s currently filming “Central Intelligence” and lending his voice to the upcoming Disney animated film “Moana.”

The “Hercules” stud is set to star in the upcoming films “Rampage, Shazam!” and “Furious 8,” and it was recently announced that Zac Efron will be joining him in the forthcoming “Baywatch” movie remake.

This isn’t the only film that the studio is creating based on a popular ride. Disney is also developing “The Haunted Mansion,” which will reportedly be directed by Guillermo Del  Toro and stars Ryan Gosling.
