- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

YES! Magazine, the number one entertainment magazine in the Philippines, celebrated 15 years of chronicling the world of showbiz with a grand anniversary party at the Crowne Plaza Galleria last July 27.

Since its first issue in 2000, YES! has been privy to the stars’ most intimate thoughts, had been welcomed into their homes, invited to their parties, weddings and other affairs—all these have made YES! the country’s most trusted entertainment magazine.

The 15th anniversary bash held Monday gathered the most beautiful stars from the three leading networks –ABS-CBN, TV5 and GMA-7. The event also presented the 100 Most Beautiful Stars List, which has Kris Aquino on the cover of the magazine’s special edition, copies of which were distributed to guests that night.

However, Kris was not able to attend the event as the affair coincided with the last State of the Nation address of her brother, President Noynoy Aquino. But she posted a message on her Instagram account which read:

“To @yes_magazine thank you for putting me on the cover of #100Most BeautifulStars2015, happy 15th anniversary! You gave me a singular honor and I am eternally grateful, how I wish I could be partying with you – ano ba, sobrang nakakakilig to be called beautiful at 44! But tonight’s my only brother’s night, and we’re with him for an intimate gathering of family and his closest friends and co-workers. Alam kong once in a lifetime ang YES! Most Beautiful cover na 'to, and just how blessed I am, kung alam niyo lang how our photo sessions restored my self-esteem, pero priority ko to be with my family. Sana huwag kayong magtampo #YesTeam @pepalerts

#FAMILYFirst #Bunso.”

It was a star-studded affair as Ms. Jo-Ann Maglipon and her hardworking staff, who were all dressed to the nines (the motif was “shining, shimmering, splendid”), had a fun time welcoming guests.

Among the celebrities who graced the event were Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, Willie Revillame (who graces the cover of the YES! August issue), Lovi Poe and Rocco Nacino, Ai Ai delas Alas, Ritz Azul, Mark Neumann, Gladys Reyes, Sunshine Cruz, Aiko Melendez, Dindi Gallardo, Tirso Cruz III, Max Collins, Iñigo Pascual, as well as network bosses Felipe Gozon of GMA-7, Charo Santos of ABS-CBN and Wilma Galvante of  TV5.

Other stars we spotted were Lorna Tolentino, Tirso Cruz III, Dennis Trillo, Janice de Belen, Tom Rodriguez, Janine Gutierrez, Donita Rose, Richard Gomez, John Lapus, and Pops Fernandez, among others.

Hosted by Martin Nievera, among those who did song numbers were Dulce, KZ Tandingan, Aicelle Santos and Kooky Chua, The Voice Season 2 champion Jason Dy, and Regine Velasquez.

To YES! Magazine and its hardworking staff, our congratulations!

Showbiz newbie Kevin Poblacion is out to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor. The 19-year-old looker from Canada is currently taking up an acting workshop with Star Magic (with Rhyan Carlos as his mentor) and is getting good feedback.

Kevin was born in Canada on August 5, 1995. He stands at 5’8”. It has been his childhood dream to be in showbiz but decided it would be best to finish his course in Tourism first before embarking on the said journey to find his luck in the glittering world of tinseltown.

This is only the second time for Kevin to visit the hometown of his parents in Iloilo. The first time was when he spent a year in high school in Iloilo, which was meant to introduce him to his roots. His parents wanted Kevin to experience what life is like in Iloilo – a departure from the way of life he had in Canada. Had Kevin found studying in Iloilo to his liking, his parents would have decided to make him finish high school there so that he can experience what it was to study in his parent’s hometown and spend more time there. After a year in Iloilo, Kevin went back to Canada to finish high school.

Kevin knows Ilonggo and is now taking up lessons in Tagalog. When he and his parents visited Manila last April, Ken learned it might be possible to give showbiz a try, so he asked permission from his parents to stay in the country for the meantime.

Armed with determination despite being alone in Manila, Kevin is out to seek his fortune in showbiz. He enrolled in an acting workshop of ABS-CBN, and was accepted even if he was a late enrollee. The workshop proved to be an enjoyable experience for Kevin.

He is one guy really interested in acting. With his good looks and innate charm, Kevin might just find himself a spot in showbiz. His parents are very supportive of his showbiz dream. Otherwise, they would not have allowed him to stay by his lonesome in Manila. In giving the cutthroat industry a try, Kevin gave up his job as cashier in an A&W Fastfood joint in Canada where he just asked for a two-week vacation to visit Manila. He also had to forego a chance to work as a flight steward for an airline company.

Kevin is now doing VTRs for commercials and he can decide what path to take after his acting workshop finishes next month. Some of his showbiz idols include Kapuso primetime queen Marian Rivera, ABS-CBN chinita princess Kim Chiu and Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual. These are the performers whom Kevin usually watches on TV and given a chance, he would love to work with them. He is being managed by Boy Palma, the manager of Ms. Nora Aunor.
