Last 3 weeks for ‘Two Wives’

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

When she took the role of Janine in the widely-followed “Two Wives,” which is now on its last three weeks of airing, Erich Gonzales never thought the character would be as bad as she is now.

“When the story started, she’s shy, but eventually she became a fighter. She became so bad that even the child of Kaye Abad and Jason Abalos met an accident and fell into a gutter,” said Erich at the thanksgiving presscon of “Two Wives” held Wednesday at ABS-CBN.

This is the most challenging role of Erich to date and since the character has a lot of angst, it really has so much impact especially on the viewers. She even disclosed that she had to close her Instagram account because she had been getting death threats. The messages sent to her are so mean and to get death threats is no joke. The people seemed to have forgotten that Erich is just playing a role and it’s her job to do it well.

The top-rating primetime soap hasn’t ended yet but its lead stars Kaye Abad and Erich are already feeling mixed emotions for their upcoming finale.

“Of course I’m sad that the show will end because I will surely miss everyone, even the character of Yvonne,” said Kaye.

Both women also admitted that “Two Wives” is a very special soap to them. For Kaye, playing Yvonne is a big break for her career, especially that she is one of the show’s lead stars.

“The management took a very big risk for giving me this project,” Kaye playfully quipped.” I was coming from doing a kontrabida role in my last teleserye and I would say the network took a gamble in casting me in the role of Yvonne which is a very sympathetic character. I haven’t done a lead role since ‘Tabing Ilog’ and I must admit doing ‘Two Wives’ was really a big break for me.”

“Two Wives,” which was based on a popular Koreanovela of the same title, has strayed from its original story. According to head writer Gina Tagasa Gil, the Korean producers knew of the changes they made in the story to give it depth. “We did the changes to suit the taste of Pinoy viewers. Our attack is real drama and the not the usual teleserye that we are familiar with. We dug deep into the emotions. I guess we did the right thing because we have high ratings.”

For months, viewers followed the intense conflict between Erich as Janine and Kaye as Yvonne, along with the men in their lives: Victor (Jason Abalos), Albert (Patrick Garcia), Dale (Rayver Cruz), and Kenjie (Daniel Matsunaga). As its conclusion draws near, viewers are eager to find out how Yvonne and Janine’s intense rift will end. When will revenge stop consuming them? Who’ll be victorious in the end? Will there be forgiveness for both of them? Will the story of the Pinay “Two Wives” end just like that of their Korean counterparts?

If you are in law school, would you dare take the challenge of putting up a company that focuses on production and talent management?

Well, Mark Angelo Castillo did just that via Starquest Alliance Corporation. It is a 100 percentFilipino-owned company whose aim is to give high-quality entertainment and creative concepts via event productions, talent management and film production. Helping Castillo run the company are his chief operating officer Kim Reyes and lawyer Kristoffer Bryan Salom. Among their forthcoming projects are school concerts, a fun run, company product exposure, car show and slim body model search. A musical concert and international shows are also set in Japan and Dubai, respectively.

It’s film arm has also started the movie “Mandirigma” being directed by journalist-turned director Arlyn dela Cruz. “Mandirigma” is set to finish sometime in March to meet its playdate of April 9, which is Araw ng Kagitingan. The producers want that playdate for this story on Philippine Marines which is based on a true account.

Since Derek Ramsay, who was the original choice to play the lead is so busy and can’t give any day for shooting, there was no other way but to replace him. Tapped for the role is Luis Alandy.

“We can’t wait for him (Derek) because we already have a playdate so we have no other recourse but to replace him. We can’t finish the movie on time if we will wait for Derek’s availability. We’ve already shot three days and we can now go full blast kasi may lead actor na kami.”

We say that Luis is a good choice for the role. Meanwhile, Direk Arlyn is very pleased with her producers who vowed full support for “Mandirigma.”

As for working with Derek, this will have to wait another time. And another project.
