CEBU, Philippines - With Cebuanas clinching one national title after the other this 2014, plus the recent crowning of Jamie Herrell from Cebu as Miss Earth, ardent supporters were crossing their fingers that Kris Tiffany Janson would be the second Bisdak beauty to gift us an international pageant crown this year.
Alas it was not meant to be, but the 24-year-old former Miss Cebu will still come home head held high after placing third among 70 other candidates from around the world. After two weeks in Germany, and months of rigid preparation, Janson’s efforts were paid off with a second runner-up finish in the 43rd edition of the Panama-based beauty tilt. She was also named Miss Photogenic.
Held early Friday (Philippine time) at the Maritim Hotel in Magdeburg, Germany, emerging the major winner was 19-year-old Patraporn Wang of Thailand, while first runner-up was 22-year-old model Jeslie Margal of Cuba.
Finalists from Portugal, Argentina and South Africa completed the top six.
Winners of other special awards are: Best in Swimsuit- Miss South Africa, Best in Evening Gown-Miss Puerto Rico, Best in National Costume-Miss Panama, Miss Fashion and Style-Miss Turkey, and Miss Congeniality-Miss Canada.
In between official pageant events, Janson and the other candidates toured Germany’s sights, including the iconic Bradenburg Gate, Christmas Village in Magdeburg, the National Parliament of The Federal Republic of Germany in Bundestag and other sights around Berlin.
Last year’s Miss Intercontinental Philippine delegate, Mutya ng Pilipinas winner Koreen Medina, placed third runner-up. – with PhilStar News Service
