No stone left unturned in the making of ‘Bonifacio’

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The unpredictable weather notwithstanding, the cameras continue to roll for “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo” which has action star Robin Padilla playing the role of the revered Andres Bonifacio. We believe this movie is one of the more interesting entries in the forthcoming 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival this December.

We have a feeling that Bonifacio will be a strong contender for awards on the Gabi ng Parangal. The producers are leaving no stone unturned to make the movie interesting. According to Robin, his producers are making sure that they are going to give a quality film to the audience.

“We want to give the public a really good movie that is why whatever it is that we need for the film, no matter how expensive, our producers are not afraid to shell out more money as long as we get the look and feel that we want for Bonifacio,” said Robin who won the best actor at the 2013 MMFF for “10,000 Hours.”

The “Talentadong Pinoy” host added that the movie has many revelations about Bonifacio that we never knew before. These revelations are different from what we learned from our history books. Robin is very passionate about this project and it is evident with the way he talks about it.

Writer-director Jose Javier Reyes is known for his acclaimed drama movies like “Iisa Pa Lamang,” “Nang Iniwan Mo Ako,” but he excelled in doing horror movies as well like “Malikmata,” “Spirit of the Glass,” “Matakot ka sa Karma” and “Kutob.” Among the many scripts that he has written, we liked “Oro Plata Mata,” a film directed by Peque Gallaga.

Direk Joey said he hasn’t done a horror film in a long while that is why he was so glad when Mother Lily Monteverde of Regal Films gave him the go signal to do “Dilim” which stars Kylie Padilla, Rayver Cruz, Joross Gamboa, Nathalie Hart, Ella  Cruz and Yna Asistio.

“So I’m really happy that Mother Lily gave me the chance to do another horror flick in ‘Dilim’. And it’s so nice to do horror now because the film language has changed and there are many ways to attack a horror film to scare the audience. I also want to thank Mother Lily because it’s only Regal that gives filmmakers complete liberty with what you want to do with your movie.”

Direk Joey is a big fan of horror movies. He likes the works of Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe. Among his all-time favorite horror movies are “The Others” with Nicole Kidman and the original version of “Carrie” directed by Brian de Palma.
