Jaclyn Jose wants villain roles with a heart

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Award-winning ac-tress and  â€œCarmela” mainstay Jaclyn Jose says it’s a big challenge to be the mother of Andi Eigenmann, who is also now a much sought after young actress.

“Since she entered the business, she is living alone. She wants to be independent. I just let her be as long as she will protect herself. She doesn’t want to consult since I am kind of makulit. Since I am a mother, I am naturally very protective of her. Rather than hear me tumatalak, she’d rather decide things for herself. After all she is no longer a child and is in fact, already a mother herself,” said the versatile actress who gained acclaim in the movie “Private Show” directed by her mentor Chito Roño.

Jaclyn says she will always be behind her daughter. She will support Andi all the way. All that Andi needs to do is tell her if ever she needs anything.

She is doing a new indie film titled “Tumbang Preso” but it is only a guest role and she shot only for one day. Jaclyn is partial to doing indie films and she trusts her manager Ed Instrella to choose the indie films that is worthy of her time. “I trust Ed. I have never gone to a movie set where I didn’t like the project. Pag nakita mo ako sa set, ibig sabihin gusto ko talaga itong gawin,” added the actress.

The movie is directed by a new director named Kip Oebanda. “I welcome the opportunity of working with the new breed of directors. It’s my way of paying forward and be able to contribute to this industry which I love so much. Whenever I accept a film project, you can be sure I will give it my best.”

Jaclyn is playing a kontrabida role in “Carmela.” This is not the first time for her to play a villain in a soap opera. She also played a kontrabida role in “Mundo Mo’y Akin” for which she earned praise for.

Is it hard to play a kontrabida role?

“But you know, I want to create a new image for the kontrabida. I want to give them a heart. Yes, the kontrabida gets angry and does something bad but she should have a redeeming factor. I want the audience to see that they should not emulate what the kontrabida is doing. We should be not bad because something bad might also happen to us. The audience should realize that we should not do something bad to another person.”

How does she feel when someone mimics her acting style? “I feel flattered plus I get free publicity,” Jaclyn says with a laugh. “Ginagaya ako ni Ryzza Mae (Dizon) at si Mr. Fu plus other comedians. I am happy kasi my name gets noticed by the younger audience.”

How would you like to be remembered? “A great actress, a great person and a great mom. I want be remembered as someone who is good in everything that I do. I am ambitious. I want to be the female counterpart of Al Pacino during his younger days.”
