‘Raketeros’ makes TV debut on Cinema One

CEBU, Philippines - A good round of laughs is in store for television viewers today, as the hilarious comedy film “Raketeros” will finally be making its TV premiere on Cinema One, following its release last year for Star Cinema’s 20th anniversary.

“Raketeros,” directed by Randy Santiago, stars 90s comedy icons Herbert Bautista, Dennis Padilla, Long Mejia, Andrew E., and Ogie Alcasid.

It details the adventures and misadventures of a group of middle-aged male friends—the cable guy, Berto (Herbert), the billiards player, Mando (Dennis), the driver, Mulong (Long), the ‘religious’ one, Andoy (Andrew E.), and the all-around singer, Julio (Ogie). In the film, the five gather to complete the simple task of delivering an expensive gown to their rich friend’s mansion—but a series of mishaps puts them in jeopardy.

In what was described as the ‘ultimate throwback’, “Raketeros” marked the first time that these comedy icons of the 90s came together for a major project. The movie was said to have provided a feel-good break from the pace of the present day.

In its review of the film, The Philippine Star called it “a new kind of comedy which is what most everybody needs in times like this when prices and the crime rate are going up, as a stress-reliever.”

End the weekend with comic relief through the TV premiere of  “Raketeros,” airing tonight at 8 and at 9 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 22) on Cinema One (SkyCable channel 56). (FREEMAN)
