Jake Cuenca in a wonderful state

Kapamilya hunk Jake Cuenca is having a blast in 2013. He finished six movie projects and is also doing the newly-launched ABS-CBN teleserye “Maria Mercedes” which features Jessy Mendiola in the title role.

He’s looking forward to taking a break come December by going to Spain where he will spend the holidays and his 25th birthday on the 30th. Jake will take advantage of the Christmas break to recharge while he takes stock of things and of what has been a good year for him.

He is rumored to be courting his “Maria Mercedes” leading lady and Jake admits that he and Jessy are indeed going out if they have time. “We are both busy with our respective projects so we really don’t have time. We can go out if the taping finishes early. I am already happy with the time we spend together. We are enjoying each other’s company at work. Our show is doing very well. Jessy is also evolving. She’s also doing a movie and I am also busy doing three movies right now,” Jake told the press at the RTL CBS Asia Entertainment Network launch held October 16th at the Luxent Hotel.

He is aware that Sam Milby is going out with Jessy and he has no problem with that since he and Jessy are not yet an item. “Like I’ve said, I have no problem with Sam. He’s a good friend of mine. We have different styles of courting because we are two different men,” he said.

Jake’s past relationships were also from showbiz but none of them worked out. He said a relationship can go either way – work out and you end up having a family or if it doesn’t work out you end up parting ways.

“You may have a successful relationship with someone but still not end up together. But whatever relationship I had with anyone in my life, whether that person got mad at me or we ended up as friends, I don’t have any regrets. I loved all of them and I hope that all of them felt that I loved them. Sometimes things work, sometimes it doesn’t,” explained Jake.

He considers himself fortunate that he has had good relationships and is enjoying a wonderful state of career as well. When it comes to pursuing Jessy, Jake doesn’t want to put a timetable as when things will fall into place. “We are both not in a hurry to get into a relationship since she is also coming from a previous relationship so I am not also hurrying things up,” he said.

He feels lucky that he has a lot of time to spend with Jessy since they are working together in a show. He feels that is an advantage but he is not using it to push things forward. He just wants to take things easy and let it take a natural flow. “If it happens that Jessy and I become together, I’d be the happiest man,” he said.

Through his numerous film projects, Jake has shown the different sides of his persona. He played a gay NPA in “Lihis” and a dramatic turn in the indie film “Nuwebe” where he was a father who got his 9-year-old daughter pregnant.

He is also doing a new movie for Viva Films titled “When The Love Is Gone” where he goes daring, not in terms of baring as he did in “Lihis,” but in terms of the quality of the role. “I am playing a political figure whose life turned for the worst because of money, power, and influence,” Jake relates. Co-starring with him are Cristine Reyes, Andi Eigenmann, Gabby Concepcion, and Alice Dixson.
