Kelly Clarkson prefers talent to skin

CEBU, Philippines - When it comes to talent, Kelly Clarkson has loads of it, but don't expect her to ever try to let her sex appeal shine brighter.

The beaming bride-to-be shared some interesting insights about her early years in the music biz, when producers wished the young star would show more skin.

“I was in L.A. before I did ‘Idol,’ and it was very much like that,” Kelly said. “They really wanted me to be another person to sell records, and I was like, well, then no one is going to pay attention to my talent, and that's what I love.”

While some stars love to look sexy all the time, Kelly said she had a clear vision of the type of artist she wanted to be. “I decided years ago that's not for me. I'd hate to. I'm a girl, we all like looking sexy, we all love doing that, I get it.”

Kelly has always been one to stand up for herself, even if it meant a public feud with Clive Davis. She got into a beef back in February with the record producer, calling him out for writing that she had cried during one of their meetings about her song “Since U Been Gone” in his memoir, “The Soundtrack of My Life.”

But Kelly quickly responded to Clive, saying that he had the details all wrong. “I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called ‘Because of You,’” Kelly said. “He hated it and told me verbatim that I was a ‘s---ty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.’”

Though that dispute was all about the music, it's clear that now her image is one thing she is ready to fight for as well.
