Charice mom’s own shocker: I was also a tomboy

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis - The Freeman

MANILA, Philippines - A week after Charice announced to the world that she’s a lesbian, it was her mother’s turn to make a surprising revelation of her own.

Interviewed on television, Mommy Raquel admitted that she too was a tomboy when she was young. But she said she did not run after any girl, and that she changed because mom told her to.

“I told Charice that I experienced what she was going through, but I changed. It’s just a feeling that you can alter if you really want to,” Mommy Raquel said.

Once, she said, she hurt Charice in the heat of an argument they had over her sexual preference. “We were in Los Angeles at that time. I saw her laptop open and asked her if she was a tomboy. She answered, ‘Of course not. Who told you that? The problem is that you believe just anybody.’ I got mad. I told her to be more respectful when she answers me. I grabbed her by the hair.”

Not long after, Charice had a relationship with her American manager, Courtney Blooding. She emailed her mom to tell her about it. “She said she was afraid to tell me straight in my face. She said I should just accept it because that’s what she is,” Mommy Raquel said.

She advised Charice to keep her being a lesbian a secret because it could damage her rising international career.

Mommy Raquel says she has accepted her daughter being a lesbian. “It’s her attitude towards her family that I can’t accept.”

Appearing last week in Solita Monsod’s talk show, Charice said she knew she was different from the other girls when she was five years old.

She said she was very close to a classmate of hers. “One day she was running a fever and I was very worried. I walked her home and then I lost my way.”

According to her she was 18 when she revealed her sexual preference to her mom. “It was like a rollercoaster ride. There were times when we were okay, and times when we were not.”

At the announcement of the nominees for the Yahoo! OMG Awards 2013 last week, Charice also let on that she has a huge crush on Sarah Geronimo.

“She’s pretty, and that’s already a bonus. But she’s kind, and I know that she defended me,” she said.

Sarah was among the first celebrities to come to Charice’s defense after her big reveal.

Of course it’s just a crush. Charice has a girl friend, Alyssa Quijano, a fellow singer.

Many are relieved to see Nadia Montenegro and Annabelle Rama back on good terms again.

The two friends have been locked in a bitter feud for close to a year and even swapped charges in court.

The argument stemmed from Nadia’s complaint that Annabelle was neglecting the showbiz careers of her two daughters, Annika and Alyanna. Annabelle is the talent manager of the two.

Annabelle naturally denied Nadia’s grievance, and the word war was on.

In her recent tweet, Annabelle said she and Nadia hugged and made up. ‘Positive day today. I arrived from Cebu last night to attend hearing this morning.’

She said she “didn’t expect anything” from their meeting. But they were in a good mood and they embraced each other.

They even had lunch together, Annabelle said.

The suicide attempt of Michael Jackson’s 15-year-old daughter Paris shows that the pop star’s family has not totally recovered from the shock of his death in 2009.

Paris slashed her forearm with a meat cleaver last week and was put on a “psychiatric hold” before being transferred to a hospital.

There are reports that Paris is having problems connecting with her grandmother Katherine, and that she wants to be close to her biological mom, Debbie Rowe.

Rowe is not exactly on friendly terms with the Jackson family and is said to be making a move to become Paris’ legal guardian.
