Aboitiz-led CSB reaffirms commitment to DepEd
CEBU, Philippines — City Savings Bank (CitySavings), the thrift banking arm of Aboitiz-led Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting educators and learners through a renewed partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed recently further strengthening CitySavings’ role in advancing educational initiatives aligned with DepEd’s 5-Point Agenda.
The collaboration reinforced CitySavings’ ongoing efforts to address key challenges in the education sector through sustainable learning and teaching support programs.
During the MOA signing, CitySavings Chairperson and UnionBank President and CEO Ana Aboitiz-Delgado emphasized the bank’s longstanding mission to uplift communities.
“City Savings Bank was founded by my great-grandfather, Don Ramon Aboitiz, together with his trusted business partner, Teotimo Abellana, with a simple vision back then—to serve people of moderate means,” Aboitiz-Delgado said.
“At Aboitiz, everything we do is anchored in our values and greater purpose. We applaud DepEd for its commitment to improving the quality of education in our country, and rest assured that CitySavings and the entire Aboitiz Group remain dedicated to empowering teachers and learners,” she added.
CitySavings President and CEO Manuel Santiago, Jr. echoed this commitment, highlighting the bank’s enduring support for educators.
“For years, our focus has been on serving our beloved teachers, ensuring that we meet their needs as we strive to be their bank of choice. Since 2008, we have partnered with DepEd to provide accessible, relevant, and sustainable corporate social responsibility programs,” Santiago said.
Among the key initiatives under the renewed partnership is CitySavings’ donation of laptops to selected DepEd divisions nationwide. This effort aims to accelerate digital transformation in public schools and improve learning outcomes by enhancing technology access for both teachers and students.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara expressed appreciation for CitySavings’ unwavering support.
“City Savings Bank has long been a trusted partner—not just in banking, but in nation-building. The ‘Tatak Aboitiz’ commitment to care and integrity is deeply felt in education, especially in strengthening our computerization program,” Angara said.
He also recognized CitySavings’ broader contributions to financial inclusion.
“Through your financial literacy programs, affordable loans, and support for National Teachers’ Month and other DepEd initiatives, we have seen a commitment that extends beyond profit. This is not just business—it’s a mission,” Angara added.
