Tourism Night: Disenyo Garbo showcases Oponganon creativity
CEBU, Philippines — In celebration of the 289th fiesta of Nuestra Señora de Regla, Lapu-Lapu City hosted Tourism Night: Disenyo Garbo on November 14, 2024, at the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob.
The event, part of the city’s ongoing fiesta activities, celebrated the best of Oponganon creativity, showcasing local fashion, food, and hospitality in a vibrant evening.
The night began with a spectacular fashion show, featuring unique designs by six talented Oponganon designers: Philipp Tampus, Pette del Rio, Angelo Andoloy, Tonette Berdon, Alejandro Godinez, and Mel Maria. Their collections beautifully blended traditional influences with contemporary flair, reflecting the city’s rich cultural heritage and passion for the arts.
“It is my honor to witness our local talent shine on a night that brings together creativity and community spirit,” said Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan.
“Our Oponganon designers and models showcase not only fashion but also our culture, heritage, and artistry,” he added.
The evening also highlighted Lapu-Lapu’s culinary excellence, with food and cocktails crafted by the city’s top chefs from renowned hotels and resorts, including Shangri-La Mactan, Crimson, Bluewater, Movenpick, Plantation Bay, JPark, Waterfront, Savoy, Costabella, and Pacific Cebu Resort. Attendees enjoyed a fusion of traditional and modern flavors, celebrating the city’s vibrant gastronomy.
Congresswoman Cindi King-Chan, in her speech, recognized the City Tourism Office’s recent achievements and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing Lapu-Lapu’s tourism industry.
“Under the Chan administration, tourism will continue to be one of our top priorities. I am confident that Lapu-Lapu City will become a globally recognized destination while upholding the interests of our local tourism partners,” stated the congresswoman.
The evening was graced by city officials, tourism advocates, and representatives from the Department of Education, including Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Marilyn Andales and Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ronald Ferrer. Guests applauded the Fiesta Executive Committee, led by Queenie Ammann, and Tourism Officer Garry Lao for organizing a memorable event that celebrated Oponganon pride. — (FREEMAN)
