CEBU, Philippines — Building on the success of the Cebu radio program “Pulido,” which provided advice on sustainable housing, Habitat for Humanity’s Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter in the Philippines, in collaboration with TV8 Media Productions, is extending its advocacy nationwide to assist low-income households in securing safe and affordable homes.
TV8’s iHeartPH has introduced a new 13-episode segment called “Build it Right Guide,” airing every Sunday from 10 to 10:30 in the morning on GMA’s analog and digital platforms.
This segment aims to provide practical information and expert advice on constructing homes that are resilient to natural disasters, specifically targeting lower-income homeowners, said Vanessa Versoza, business unit head of TV8.
Versoza emphasized the urgency of such a program in the Philippines, where many homes lack proper foundations, putting families at risk.
Studies indicate that over 1.6 million homes nationwide suffer from inadequate foundations.
In Cebu alone, 36 percent of families live in homes without proper structural support, while another 28 percent require upgrades.
Architect Edmund Samson of Edsa Architects, a former guest on the radio show “Pulido: Arkitekto Tambagi Ko!,” aired over DYLA, noted that the “Build it Right Guide” will tackle these issues directly, offering practical solutions for those who cannot afford professional expertise when building their homes.
The show will also combat misinformation by featuring reliable, real-life advice from housing and construction experts.
To ensure the content is both informative and engaging, the segment will feature social media influencers alongside industry experts as co-hosts and contributors, making the information accessible and relatable to a broader audience.
