Cebu firm gets int’l architecture design award

CEBU, Philippines —  The company behind the Tops redevelopment project in Busay, Cebu City has bested more than a thousand other contenders to clobber the “2023 Best Commercial Building Architecture Design” award.

Cebu-based ArchiGlobal Inc., led by Cebuano Architect Michael P. Torres, recently got international recognition, the only one in the Philippines to make it to the winners’ circle of the inaugural Asia Architecture Design Awards at Fairmont, Singapore.

The award is given to honor the greatest visionaries of the architectural world whose creations can become synonymous with a city for generations, according to the award-giving body.

Tops, in its own social media posts, said there were over a thousand entries, but their redevelopment project was selected as the best commercial building architecture design.

Such an award is also giving the Cebuanos and the rest more excitement to return to one of Cebu’s landmarks.

Torres’ architectural firm had also been named as the 2023 Best Architecture Design Firm.

Earlier, ArchiGlobal was also recognized as one of the top 10 architectural firms of the Philippines by BCI Central Philippines.

To put an icing to its cake, the Cebu City Council, presided yesterday by Acting Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros, gave due recognition to Torres and ArchiGlobal’s achievement.

The resolution authored by City Councilor Joel Garganera said the Asia Architecture Design Awards (AADA) is a juried competition with a desire to honor excellences and creativities in a varied range of Architecture & Design works from regional to international scale to recognize the best in the industry, celebrate creativities, inspiration and innovations in architecture interior design, architectural product design and individual work in Asia.

Garganera also said that “ArchiGlobal Inc. is a renowned architectural firm, revolutionizing the real estate and construction industry with its expertise in mid-density residential communities, commercial, and mixed-use developments. With a strong emphasis on sustainability, people-centric design, and community relevance.”
