Marketing is about getting people’s attention
The simplest definition of marketing is just that – getting people’s attention. Now the question is, are you spending your marketing efforts wisely in channels that actually have people’s attention?
Today, many companies still don’t know about social media and online marketing. They still believe that it is a fad. It’s not. It’s not something coming. It’s already here, happening. The opportunity is that the ad prices are still relatively underpriced compared to traditional adverts.
To put things in perspective, it took thirty-eight years before 50 million people gained access to radios. It took television thirteen years to earn an audience that size. It took Instagram a year and a half.
Let that sink in.
Today, getting people to hear your story on social media, and then act on it, requires using a platform's native language, paying attention to context, understanding the nuances and subtle differences that make each platform unique, and adapting your content to match.
In the US, the social media advertising revenue is estimated to increase by more than 194%, to reach $15 billion in 2018? This is a huge increase from the $5.1 billion spend of last year! Participants and prices are bound to increase – so now is the time to take advantage of it when prices are still underpriced.
As of 2018, there are 3.196 billion people using social media on the planet, up 13 percent from 2017. With more and more people turning to social media as a platform to buy and sell products, every entrepreneur should have a social media platform to represent their business and consider whether these platforms might represent an opportunity to advertise their products and services.
Here are a few things that social media can help:
• Increase Brand Awareness and Exposure - Social media is a good platform to expose your business to new and potential customers.
• Learn About Your Target Market - As a business owner, you can also use social media to learn about the interests of your clients and potential customers.
• Provide Better Customer Services - Customers no longer use phone calls to make complaints. Instead, they use social media to air their grievances. As a business person, listening to the social media dialog created by your customers can help you identify issues in near-real time and help out fast.
• Conduct Competitive Analysis - Social media can provide an opportunity to keep a close observation on your competitors. Keeping a close watch on your competitor’s activities can also provide ideas on how to improve your products and services.
• Lead generation - Publishing posts that are useful and related to your brand plays a big role in attracting traffic to your profile page, and eventually, customers to your business.
• Remain Relevant in The Market - One indicator of how long your company will stay in business is determined by how relevant you are in the market you serve. The best way to achieve this is to stay in constant communication with your customers, and always be aware of their changing needs.
