CEBU, Philippines - The Filipino-Korean firm that's building a waterpark up above the J Centre Mall is now eyeing Mactan as next site for its expansion.
"We also would like to expand our waterpark concept to various locations in Philippines, probably start somewhere in Mactan since Cebu need major attraction for international tourists," Simon Yang, vice president of DSNP Corp. said.
Yang said the Mactan project will be 1.5 hectares in size and will feature various waterslides, wave pool, surfing pool, dinner theater, and a cultural activity center which will promote Philippine history.
The firm did not disclose though when the project is set to start.
He said the company is looking for a local partner for its expansion plan.
Meanwhile, the company is soft opening its Sky Waterpark Cebu which sits on a 4,200-square meter leased space at the sixth floor roofdeck of the J Centre Mall in Mandaue City.
Yang said the firm has invested P100 million for the waterpark project, deemed to be a new addition to city tourist stops in Cebu.
The waterpark facility features a water playground with pool, an island and infinity pool with jacuzzi, resting decks, a dining and entertainment area, a gift shop, spa, and concessionaire outlets, among others.
The open-air space above gives its guests the panoramic views of the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, and Cebu.
It is eyed for social functions, corporate gatherings and other special events.
The company plans the grand opening of the waterpark by next month or January 2017.
Its construction started in middle 2015 and is ongoing until now.
The waterpark project is beside Toyoko Inn Hotel, located on the same building level.
It seeks to attract both local and foreign travelers.
In its latest Marketview on Cebu's property market, real estae consultant CBRE Philippines said it can be expected that tourism, business and leisure travel will significantly increase and contribute to the economic prosperity of Cebu.
CBRE, however, underscored the importance of infrastructure development, saying it remains a key success and competitive factor as the province continue in its pursuit to become the top travel destination for tourists as well as a premier hub for international investors.
DSNP's management has experience in leisure developments.
