Miriam College trains Liloan day care workers

CEBU, Philippines - To provide early childhood educators in Liloan, Cebu the opportunity to improve the quality of their teaching, the Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund (DACF) of Ramon Aboitiz Foundations Inc. (RAFI) partnered with the Lingap Bulilit program of Miriam College of Quezon City and the local government of Liloan to train 30 day care workers and kinder teachers.

The training took place from May 22-26 at La Consolacion College, Liloan, Cebu.

During the five-day training, instructors from Miriam College shared practical knowledge and hands-on activities in areas like curriculum planning, production of instructional materials, arts and crafts, and music and movement. Participants engaged in group discussions and role playing to improve their skills in behavior management and parent relations.

Recognizing the important role of parents in a child’s development, parents of day care pupils were invited to a half-day parenting seminar. They participated in lecture-discussions on parenting styles and family and values education. They were also made to role play issues and concerns of typical Filipino families.

The activity was part of DACF’s capacity building program, which aims to improve the quality of public early childhood education by providing trainings and workshops to day care center teachers and parents. (FREEMAN)
