Belmonte designated La Rainee Abad Sarmiento, head of Task Force Sikap Buhay, as coordinator of the new Anti-Poverty Integrated Task Force (AFITF) that will focus on addressing the problem of poverty that affects almost half of the city’s 2.4 million population.

The Puhunang Pangkabuhayan Sikap Buhay, a livelihood program of the Quezon City government, has now assisted at least 10,000 poor families in the city.


In a report to Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., La Raine Abad Sarmiento, officer in charge of the Task Force Sikap Buhay,  said P130 million in loan assistance has been provided to small businesses. 


The program, created in 2002, continues to allow members, mostly housewives seeking to augment their family income, to renew loan applications at a minimal 1.5 percent interest per month.

                    [Summary] => Three years ago, life for Lydia Pineda, a resident of Barangay Baesa in Quezon City was extremely hard — her weekly earnings of P1,000 as a laundry woman just barely enough to provide for her family’s daily needs. 	


But after undergoing seminars on the Puhunang Pangkabuhayan Sikap Buhay, a collateral free loan and livelihood training program of the Quezon City government, she was able to borrow an initial amount of P5,000 in 2002. The money allowed her  to put up a business selling balut.
