[Title] => Egypt's long-scorned legislature deepens rift
[Summary] => When voters went to the polls more than a year ago to vote for Egypt's upper house of parliament, most presumed the legislature would be the powerless talk shop that it had always been for 30 years.

[Title] => Mindanao meet was a shura
[Summary] => While the nation was being regaled by the farce of a debate on jueteng, something very important was happening in Mindanao that may yet lead to real peace there. This is a feather to the cap of President GMA whatever the polls say about her unpopularity. I hope she is not discouraged by such polls. Given the countrys problems, anything she does will have to be unpopular. That is one of the burdens of leadership.

[Title] => Wasting time
[Summary] => There is something wrong here. The public is anxious that Congress, both the House and the Senate should pass the tax bills necessary to avert a fiscal crisis but it is to no avail. It is the Senate, not the House which is to blame. The House has now approved three of the tax bills with one more to be approved in the following days. I had a short chat with an assistant of a senator who said that the Senate was working on it and these will be approved in time. Masyadong mababa, was how he described the tax bills passed by the House. So the argument goes.
