MANILA, Philippines - The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the Certificate of Compliance (COC) for the bagasse-fired cogeneration power plant of San Carlos Bioenergy Inc. (SCBI).

The commercial operations of the P2.5-billion ethanol refinery plant of San Carlos BioEnergy Inc. (SCBI) is expected to push through by mid-January in time for the implementation of the five-percent mandated blend for ethanol under the Biofuels Act.

Trade Secretary and NDC chairman Peter B. Favila said yesterday that the NDC has released the last tranche of equity investments to SCBI amounting to P171.75 million.

Total NDC investment in SCBI is now at P211.14 million, representing a 25-percent share in the company.

SCBI’s bioethanol project will be located in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Its production capacity is 27.3 million liters per year. Aside from the production of bioethanol, SCBI will also put up a co-generation plant using the waste bagasse to produce eight megawatts of power.
