                    [Summary] => The Central Command (Centcom) yesterday strongly condemned the attack of New People's Army (NPA) rebels against non-combatant troops at the Charlie Company detachment of the 78th Infantry battalion in Barangay Sumon, Tuburan town last Saturday afternoon, which resulted to the death of three soldiers.


Centcom spokesman, Lt. Col. Jefferson Omandam, yesterday clarified that the soldiers were "non-combatants" and were there as "civic troops" assigned at the place to do community service.

A light plane with four people on board was reported missing yesterday
somewhere between two towns in Northern Luzon, officials said.

The single-engine Cessna 207 plane owned by air taxi company Chemtrad took off
from Tuguegarao, capital of Cagayan, at 8:12 a.m. for a 35-minute flight to
Palanan in nearby Isabela province, the Air Transportation Office (ATO) said in
a report.

Aviation officials sounded an alert 30 minutes after the plane, piloted by
Capt. Edgardo Castillo, failed to land on schedule.

A passenger of a private plane managed to bring down the plane safely on waters
near a Batangas beach yesterday after the pilot died of a heart attack,
aviation officials said.

The passenger turned instant pilot, Victor Consunji, received instructions over
the plane's radio from the pilot of a passing Asian Spirit plane on how to
operate the instruments of the distressed Cessna 206 plane.

"It's as if it happened in the movies," said Rolando Luna, executive director
of the Air Transportation Office (ATO).
