                    [Summary] => Planters Development Bank posted a net income of P600 million based on the newly-implemented International Accounting Standards (IAS) in 2005, the bank’s top official said.


Jesus P. Tambunting, Plantersbank chairman and CEO, said prior to the IAS adjustments, the bank made a P320-million profit last year, lower than the P400-million income in 2004.

He said they are looking at improving net earnings by another P350 million this year and by P500 million in 2007 as its loan portfolio continues to expand.

Region Bank, the largest rural bank in the country, has gross assets of P1.6 billion and a network of 11 branches in Laguna, Batangas and Muntinlupa.

With the acquisition, Plantersbank will have total consolidated assets of P27 billion. The acquisition was also approved by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC).
