[Title] => Koizumi
[Summary] => Something truly remarkable happened across Japan last Sunday: young people turned up at the polling stations to vote.
Japanese elections used to be drab, predictable affairs. This time, it was an exciting, revolutionary event.
The excitement is not due to the entry of a new party into the fray or the emergence of some colorful Lone Ranger from the margins. The excitement was brought about by the man at the helm and the same party that dominated Japanese politics for decades.

[Title] => GMA expresses concern over Japans planned ai
[Summary] => President Arroyo, who visits Japan tomorrow, has expressed concern over Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumis plan to implement drastic aid cuts to developing nations.
Amid an economic slowdown, Koizumi has vowed to carry out drastic fiscal reforms by cutting spending, including official development aid (ODA).
It raised the prospect that the worlds biggest aid budget totaling more than $8.46 billion for the fiscal year to March 2002, would be cut.
"We hope that we will not be included in the cut," Mrs. Arroyo said in a statement yesterday.
