[Title] => Many shows of protest are totally meaningless
[Summary] => After President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo survived an impeachment attempt, thousands of people took to the streets demanding that Gloria resign. The impeachment process clearly proved that there is no constitutional basis for the President to resign. Taking the issue to the streets is plain anarchy, meaning the complete absence of government. That is the ultimate disaster that can happen in our times. It will be worst than the disaster caused by hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Katrina destroyed only a city. Anarchy will affect our whole nation.

[Title] => President approves truth commission
[Summary] => President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has accepted the suggestion of the Catholic Bishops to form a truth commission to look into the allegations that she actually lost in the last elections. This is separate from impeachment case that will be filed against her by opposition lawmakers. We hope that these two developments will put a stop to two things.

[Title] => Lets hope for peaceful proclamation of winners
[Summary] => This column started this month hoping that Labor Day would be peaceful. This was because some of the followers of ousted-president Joseph Estrada tried to invade Malacañang on May 1, 2001. After Labor Day, we wrote that we hoped that elections would be peaceful and orderly. There were some isolated instances of electoral violence, but on the whole it can be said that elections were generally peaceful and methodical. Now we are praying that the canvassing and proclamation be just as peaceful and systematic.

[Title] => Catholic bishops express their stand on issues
[Summary] => We admire the way the Catholic bishops have been expressing their collective and we must say independent stand on national issues. Through its president Archbishop Orlando Quevedo, they expressed their opposition to Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyos stand on lifting the moratorium on the imposition of the death penalty. This is perfectly understandable on the churchs part that believes that life is a gift of God, ergo only God has the right to take any life away. This is not altogether true. The classic example is killing in self-defense.
