Once your name has become a term or a verb, you know you did something either too great or too humiliating.

Now the Filipino slang “sinotto” is understood—at least for now—as a term for “having plagiarized.” And judging from the amount of flack Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto received from netizens and the media, it was of the supposedly humiliating kind.

This arose when Sotto was accused of committing plagiarism in November through his privilege speech on the Reproductive Health (RH) bill in plenary, purportedly by lifting lines from a speech of former US President John Kennedy and from a few blogs.
