[Title] => Ex-PEA chairman justifies road deal
[Summary] => Former chairman Frisco San Juan of the Public Estates Authority (PEA) justified yesterday the P584-million project cost for the controversial President Diosdado Macapagal Blvd. (PDMB), saying this was duly approved by the Commission on Audit (COA).
Testifying before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, San Juan said there was nothing irregular in the PDMB project and that the old PEA board followed everything in the book.
State Auditor Manuela de la Paz confirmed before the committee that the COA had indeed approved the original contract of P584.3 million.

[Title] => No funds to pay 4,000 cops, lawmakers told
[Summary] => Congressmen found out yesterday that the 4,000 new policemen, for whom they had appropriated P300 million in this years budget, cannot be recruited due to lack of funds.
Philippine National Police officials told the House appropriations committee chaired by Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr. (Lakas, Camarines Sur) that not a single centavo of the money allotted for the hiring of 4,000 additional policemen this year has been released to them.
They said they have started screening the recruits but cannot hire them because the money for such purpose is not available.
