                    [Title] => Nyoy & Mannos for Valentine
                    [Summary] =>
Vicor Music Corp. is not only releasing reissues of its classic albums to commemorate its 40th anniversary. It is also making new versions of its old hits as performed by its new contract artists. One of these is OPM Klasiks featuring the music artistry of Nyoy Volante & Mannos. The band is made up of Volante on vocals and guitars, Glenn Dalit on cajon and other percussion, Jerome Nunez on violin, other strings and percussion, Cocoy Aranas on bass guitar and additional vocals and Maynard Albis on percussion.

                    [Title] => Nyoy: The performance, not the venue
                    [Summary] => Some people don’t take the Republic of Malate seriously as a concert venue for it’s not as big as the Folk Arts Theater (FAT) or the 17,000-seater Araneta Coliseum. They feel it is more suited for intimate happenings than it is for grandly-produced concerts.

But Nyoy Volante and His Mannos (Cocoy Aranas on bass; Jerome Nuñez on violin; Maynard Albis on bongos; and Glenn Dalit on k-hon) changed all that when they staged their first concert series, NV&M Salute the Beatles recently.

[Summary] => One thing I’ve always said about Nyoy Volante and Mannos is that they’re one of the most innovative and original acoustic acts around. Eschewing the propensity to merely dish out cover after cover, note per note, Nyoy and Mannos have purposely charted new territory by putting out original songs, and turning inside out (via imaginative rearrangement) the covers they do incorporate into their act.

But given the plethora of artists, bands and acts that have taken the strategy to heart, it’s now time to separate the men from the boys, as well as the posers from the genuine articles. A recent acoustic concert series in Makati was proof evident of just how pervasive and abused a notion "acoustic" can be. Four weekends with different acts and only one was a true blue acoustic artist; the rest were established commercial bands unplugging to join the bandwagon.
