[Title] => Dining with the Iraqi ambassador
[Summary] => Last week I was invited to a Chinese dinner tendered by Filipino businessmen in honor of Iraqi diplomats who have been displaced by the war. It was a good occasion to know Iraqis among us personally. Watching television often gives us a different impression of people in the news than if we were to meet them in flesh and blood. This is especially true of Dr. Ghaxi Fayssal Hussein who was assigned ambassador to Manila just before the war broke out. He is amiable, very soft-spoken and quite knowledgeable about politics.

[Summary] => SINGAPORE – Here I am in Lee Kuan Yew country savoring "peace and order", well-paved streets and greenery, while the natives themselves tell me they wish for some kind of change. They want to know whether there is life "outside the box". But I am not about to discuss the merits or demerits of authoritarian society. I am here to join other journalists to review our work of covering events of international significance in the last year under the umbrella of the entrepreneurial "World News Asia 2002".

[Title] => Pervez Musharraf & Kofi Annan at News World Asia 2002
[Summary] => Filipinos will be proud to know that at the center of News World Asia 2002 in Singapore on July 31-August 2 is a Filipina, Maria Ronson of APTN (Associated Press and Independent Tele-vision). She worked to get the most difficult personalities to the conference among them Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf through her good friend Major General Qureshi, his strategic media adviser. I know she has been cultivating news resources to get a more independent perspective for news gathering on the war against terrorism.
