Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. has called on Malacañang and the Sandiganbayan to grant ousted President Joseph Estrada’s request to be placed under house arrest while his plunder case is being tried.


Pimentel said that there is a precedent in the case of former governor Nur Misuari of the Autnomous Regions in Muslim Mindanao, who was allowed by the Makati City regional trial court to be put under house arrest while his rebellion case is being heard.

                    [Summary] => Former Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chairman Nur Misuari, together with his spiritual adviser, Ustadz Abuharis Usman, may now enjoy the comforts of home after the Makati City regional trial court granted yesterday his request to be placed under "house arrest."


In a three-page decision, Executive Judge Sixto Marella of Makati RTC Branch 138 said Misuari and Usman may now be transferred from the St. Luke’s Medical Center to a house along 6th street in New Manila, Quezon City.

Assistant Chief State Prosecutor Leah Armamento said in a manifestation sent to the office of Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 138 Executive Judge Sixto Marella yesterday, however, that the prosecution demands maximum security if the court decides to grant Misuari’s request.
