[Title] => BSP nixes bid to hike banks’ SBLs
[Summary] => The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has rejected calls by banks to raise the single borrower’s limit (SBL) from 25 percent to 35-45 percent of the lending bank’s unimpaired capital.

"We can’t, that’s negative. From a prudential standpoint, that is difficult to consider," said BSP Deputy Governor Alberto Reyes.

Reyes said the BSP cannot agree to the proposal to raise the SBL, but added that while current banking laws peg the SBL to 25 percent, the Monetary Board, the policy-making body of the central bank has the discretion to raise this.
