Just as the Christopher Nolan rendition of Homer’s epic poem is about to wrap up a month-long run in theaters, and you’ve read or ignored every post, review or analysis of the almost three-hour movie that has become the talk of the town among both academics and hoi polloi, what should come running like water for this quiet cinemagoer but a flood of memories from college years, of our teachers at the state university who taught us the Iliad, The Odyssey and other classics of world literature, in the tree-shaded campus of Diliman, and somewhere vinyl was playing songs by Steely Dan and Cream about our brave iconic hero, full of wisdom and hubris.
